Aren't we up to 3rd generation goths now?
I've never heard of a real, living, vampire, the concept of living off blood although distasteful seems highly fanciful and improbable.
I actually knew goths in college, before it became 'all the rage'. They were usually a broody sort, into dark literature some of which is quite interesting, some of it actual classic. Aside from the costuming, many had day jobs and all either went to school or taught there, every one I knew was enviably intelligent.
Goths are not the mentally ill folk who cut themselves, brand themselves, etc. The ones I knew laughed at Wicca because of the incredible pawnsy scheme Samuel Gardner sold people in 1910: allegedly got information that was theoretically handed down, without any written literature at all, originating from a pre-literate society to begin with, through generations of Europeans who routinely burned each other and any pagans ... again, highly unlikely, but more a commentary on the general gullibility of humanity. Goths then at least - the ones I knew, had no spiritual interests at all. Maybe things are different now, I don't know. Certainly then there wasn't any hysteria about them: hysteria they would have mocked then and probably still mock now.

don't be so sure about the improbability of vampires. That's all I'll say about that.

Vampires, I doubt not the improbability of...

..and from a way of thinking , using the words of Benjamin Franklin,
"Certainty? In this world nothing is certain but death and taxes."

Hmmm ...

Well, like I said, just don't dismiss them, don't try to explain them away with some scientific bull shit. Trust me.

Well, actually I know a few honest to the gods vampyres. I know a couple what I call sanguinarian ones, who drink blood. I also know a couple psi vamps, who feed off of energy instead. Not necessarily that of people either; they take energy from the elements etc. The sanguinarians don't drink a lot of blood at once, but they do seem to need it to subsist. Come on, Leo...remember what Hamlet said to Horatio. Lol.

Oh, and I'm sure you were probably joking, Rissa, but just to clarify: you're either a vamp or you're not. There's no way to become one; these people are just born that way, and they're really different from you or I.

Oops. I meant, no different from you or I. Lol.

Mmm Vampires. But yeah, I do know of someone who really does drink blood.

just curious... do these people that drink blood have fangs?

Post 14 by rebelwoman (Account disabled) on Sunday, 19-Jun-2011 22:59:20

no. that would be fun though.

No, drinking blood doesn't require fangs necessarily.

I haven't checked out this site yet, but I am very interested in the topic! Most of what I know or believe about vampires comes from sanguinarius.org. I'd love to talk about this subject further with anyone who's interested!

I'll have to look at that site. It it is a real biological phenomenon there will be an explanation for it. I've done enough research to know vampires don't kill or drain their victims like the Lost Boys and other movies we all thought were fun as kids. The most plausible explanation I have read thus far is an extreme deficiency in iron and some other minerals they can get from small quantities of blood. The same could be replenished by eating rare steak, or cooked liver, on a regular basis rather than blood consumption.

I have met many people who really believe they are vampires. Hell, I went to high school with someone who had a locket around her neck containing a tiny vile of her boyfriend's blood.

Post 19 by Kathy Fraggle (Zone BBS is my Life) on Monday, 19-Dec-2011 11:40:33

That sounds a bit sick and unsettling, but also fascinating and cool at the same time.
As for me, I used to think I'd like to try drinking blood. After the last time I tasted mine by accident though, I changed my mind. I'd love to experience someone drinking from me though. I think I could stand the pain, because there's a certain eroticism involved that makes it seem wonderful, at least in my mind.

My ex tried to draw blood from me once but I didn't allow her to do it. lol. I could see how it would be a turn on in theory but....ack!

Post 21 by LeoGuardian (You mean there is something outside of this room with my computer in it?) on Monday, 19-Dec-2011 14:14:35

Most humans will vomit or at least become very nauseous if they get blood into their stomach.
One concern when my wife got out of surgery 5 years ago was that she could swallow her own blood and become very nauseous. I took steps to ensure she was properly propped at all times to prevent that. It was so important she was left to sleep in a nearly sitting position, rather than the relative comfort of lying down.
So I tend to concur with the biologist who says if you imagine you need blood, eat some rare beef. Even raw if you know how it's been packaged: beef is one of the safest meats to eat without cooking all the way through. Also get a cast iron skillet and cook all your eggs and other pan-fried foods in that: you get a small bit of the iron that flakes off just doing that.

Post 22 by Kathy Fraggle (Zone BBS is my Life) on Monday, 19-Dec-2011 18:50:17

I have read that humans are unable to digest blood in any significant amount. I've also read however, don't know if it's true or not, that some people due to some genetic condition are able to consume blood, and this is the vampiric condition.

If you find yourself craving blood chances are you have an iron deficcincy. Something to think about.

Post 24 by Kathy Fraggle (Zone BBS is my Life) on Tuesday, 20-Dec-2011 20:51:05

Yeah, I read that as well. Have been anemic before, but never quite that bad. Mostly I just craved the sensation.

In that case, use a series of needles. You know I find the topic fascinating. I mean, I've always wanted to know what draws people to such things.

I think this vampireism is just nonsense.

Sure it is but some people are turned on by it. There's a foot for every shoe.
